What are cookies and how are they used?

Cookies are lines of text sent by a web server (for example the website) to the user's internet browser, automatically memorized by the browser on the user's computer and automatically re-sent to the server on every subsequent visit to the site.

Almost all web browsers are configured by default to accept cookies automatically.

The decree of May 8, 2014 by the Data Protection Supervisor identified two macro-categories of cookies: technical cookies and profiling cookies.

This site uses or may use, including in combination, the following categories of technical cookies:

  • "Session"cookies that are memorized on the user's computer for basic technical-functional needs, for the transmission of session identifiers necessary for a secure and efficient exploration of the site; these are deleted at the end of the "session" (hence the name) when the browser is closed.

  • "Permanent"cookies that remain stored on the computer's hard drive until their expiration or deliberate deletion by the user/visitor. Through permanent cookies, site visitors (or other visitors using the same computer) are automatically recognized upon each access to the site. They additionally are part of this category:

Functional cookies that allow the memorization of the browsing language or the recording of a shopping cart of online purposes.

Analytics cookies used to gather and analyse statistics on site access/visits.

These two types of cookies (session and permanent) may each be:

  • "Cookies managed directly" by the owner and/or manager of the website

  • "Third-party" cookies, or those prepared and handled by parties outside the website visited by the user: these fall under the direct and exclusive responsibility of that manager.

Google Analyticscookies fall into the category of third party cookies, used for aggregated statisticalinformation, to evaluate website traffic and the activities undertaken by visitors, memorizethe information collected by the cookies on servers located in the United States or in other countries. Google reserves the right to transfer the information gathered through its cookies to third parties, where required by law or where the third party processes information on its behalf. Google assures that it will not associate the user's IP address with any other collected data in order to create a more detailed user profile. Further information on privacy and the use of cookies is available directly on the websites of the various parties.

Additionally, the website may use profiling cookies in combination with technical cookies. Profiling cookies are used to track a user's navigation of the internet and create profiles of their characteristics, habits, lifestyles, tastes, choices, preferences, etc. Through the use of this type of cookie, it is possible to send the user advertising messages tailored to the preferences that user demonstrated during online browsing.

How they work and how to delete cookies

Visitors may configure their browser to accept or reject all cookies, or to receive a notification every time a cookie is sent in order to decide whether or not to accept it. In any event, the user has the ability to modify the default settings and disable cookies (that is definitively block them) by choosing the highest level of privacy settings.

One may also visit the site for information about how to manage or delete cookies depending on the specific browser used.

To remove cookies from the Internet browser on your smartphone or tablet, you need to consult the user's manual for your device.

Remember that limiting or blocking cookies may limit the functions available for browsing the site.

In case of services provided by third parties, the user may exercisehis/herright to opt out of tracking through information in the third party's privacy policy, through the opt-out link if explicitly provided, or by directly contacting said party.

The Data Controller also informs you that the user may make use of Your Online Choices. Through this service, one may manage one's tracking preferences for the majority of advertising instruments. Furthermore, the DataControllersuggests the use of that resource in addition to the information provided in this document.
